Dr. Brizzie is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation board-certified physician, specializing in the treatment of pain, maximizing function, and preventing future injuries. He provides care for a variety of patients that suffer with acute and chronic pain syndromes such as traumatic conditions (including traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries), motor vehicle accident trauma, arthritic/degenerative joint disease, along with spine, sport and work related injuries.
Dr. Brizzie’s education includes a Bachelors of Science in Biological Psychology, University of California, San Diego; Graduate work, Brown University; Doctor of Osteopathy, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (Sigma Sigma Phi National Community Service and Honor Society) ; Internship, Downey Regional Medical Center. He completed his residency with the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System at the UCLA Multi-Campus in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (2008).
Dr. Brizzie has been recognized by his peers and has received multiple honors in his field, including 2005 Most Outstanding Intern of the Year at Downey Regional Medical Center. His research and residency presentations have included topics such as "Common Medical Conditions and Sports", "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome", Current Trends in Management of Chronic Pain", and "Advances in Spinal Cord Injury Management".
Drawing on his own background as an accomplished junior golfer whose career was limited and affected by back pain, Dr. Brizzie can relate to a lot of his patients’ struggle for pain relief. He has published books, contributed to numerous articles, and has participated in multiple television interviews.
Dr. Tomassetti (“Dr. T”) is one of the most recognized Doctors of Chiropractic in North County. He has been successfully treating patients with back and neck pain for over 20 years. He has cared for a multitude of patients with injuries caused by work, sports, accidents or simple daily tasks. He also has years of experience in helping women with prenatal and postnatal back care.
Dr. T understands how the lives of his patients are affected when they are living with pain. Patients have praised him for his kind and caring demeanor and his ability to target problem areas that went otherwise unnoticed by other Doctors. He strongly believes in the holistic approach to wellness that Thrive promotes as a practice.
Originally from Rochester, New York, Dr. T. attended St. John Fisher College and received a B.S. in Biology. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic from National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois. He has completed extensive post-graduate work in the clinical analysis and treatment of sports, automobile and work-related injuries.
Dr. T. is a diplomat of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and is certified as an Industrial Disability Examiner. He is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the California Chiropractic Association.
Prior to the formation of Thrive Physical Medicine, Dr. T. successfully owned and operated North Coast Chiropractic since 1982. He is also a founding member and President of Pacific Coast Injury Group.
Dr. Janice Cruz is committed to her work in chiropractic and lifestyle medicine. Her goal is to help her patients achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness by balancing the body physically, nutritionally, emotionally and energetically.
As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Cruz specializes in the evaluation and treatment of neck and low back pain, work and sports injuries, personal injuries and injury prevention. After many successful years of practicing Chiropractic, Dr. Cruz began her personal endeavor into nutrition and wellness. Today she also specializes in nutritional management and consultations, FLT Certified Physician. She treats patients of all ages and uses a variety of techniques including Diversified, Thompson Drop, Flexion/Distraction and Activator Method. It is her combination of medical education, nutritional education and life experience that helps her to treat her patients through their pain and into wellness and healthful living.
Dr. Cruz is a diplomat of the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. She is also an active member of the California Chiropractic Association. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology and Nursing at California State University Long Beach and Cypress College and is a 1991 graduate of Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. Dr. Cruz’s career began with a clinic in Long Beach, CA where she was the team doctor for the Women’s Volleyball Team at Long Beach City College and Cerritos College. She moved to San Diego in 1997.
To Dr. Cruz, being a doctor means to first educate, then treat. She feels blessed and privileged by the work she does with her patients and hopes to impact the lives of as many people as possible. She truly believes that when we are in balance, we THRIVE.
