There is no question that the current state of healthcare is in serious debate. Much of that debate centers on the necessity of services and patient care. At Thrive Physical Medicine, caring for our patients is our number one concern. So it is critical that we stay up to date on treatments and services that are proving to make a difference in patient care. We are pleased to share the findings from a one-year pilot program designed by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield to measure patient quality of care. In the study, Researchers concluded that significant clinical outcomes and health care cost reductions were attributable to the use of chiropractic and other physical medicine services. 89 percent of all individuals receiving physical medicine services reported improvement within 30 days. Many other studies performed over the years by government and private entities, have proven that individuals with musculoskeletal disorders who received chiropractic care or physical therapy had lower health care costs and were less likely to have surgery than individuals who did not receive those services.

The following is a summary of our services offering at Thrive:

INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Choosing a healthcare provider is a very personal choice and some people prefer to visit the office prior to a first visit to discuss their condition generally and hear from a medical provider whether or not that practice has the resources and expertise necessary to assist them. While some practices charge a fee for an initial assessment (which is not covered by Insurance), Thrive Physical Medicine offers a complimentary visit to meet with one of our providers, tour our facilities, discuss our affordable care options and share details about your condition.

MEDICAL EVALUATION
During your initial visit, you’ll receive a comprehensive medical evaluation from a physiatrist which may include Strength testing * Reflex testing * Diagnosis of the cause of pain * X-rays if needed *Review for possible neurological problems *Evaluation of need for MRI or other imaging tests. The Doctor will create a treatment plan and coordinate care from any other of our services including physical therapy, chiropractic, medical weight loss and massage that will be required as part of your plan. If a primary care or other treating physician referred you to us, we will communicate our findings back to them. Our patient services representative will initiate a report of findings with you to explain how your insurance coverage will support the treatment plan and what your affordable care options will be. You will leave your medical evaluation understanding your treatment plan, your responsibility costs if any, and the future appointment commitments that will be needed to get well.

PAIN MANAGEMENT
Thrive’s coordinated treatments and outstanding service record make us the fast, safe and effective choice for evaluating and treating pain at its onset to prevent acute painful conditions from progressing to debilitating chronic pain syndromes. We take a holistic approach to pain management that gives our patients treatment options they may have not known existed. Although we believe pain medications, when used under close physician supervision and with good patient compliance, have benefits that far outweigh their potential risks. That said, our pain management program goes far beyond prescribing medications. It is a multi-faceted discipline that utilizes expertise from various fields of traditional and non-traditional medicine. Thrive’s menu of pain management treatments includes: Spinal Pain Treatments, Nerve Block Injections, Trigger Point Injections, Spinal Cord Stimulators, Prescribed Medications, Advanced Massage Therapy and Hands on Adjustments. We work collaboratively with your other physicians to ensure your treatment plan is developed specifically for your individual needs.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy is often one of the first steps in conservative treatment of back, muscle, or joint pain and is a critical step in the healing process and strengthening for long term wellness. A physical therapist is a health care provider who specializes in assessing and treating functional and mechanical impairments. Thrives’ physical therapists have extensive experience and additional training in treating spine and sports injury patients. Your initial evaluation with our physical therapist may include: Range of Motion (ROM), flexibility and strength testing; Functional movement and activity assessment; • Biomechanical assessment of the spine, if appropriate. Our physical therapists provide services to help in rehabilitation including: manual therapies; active exercise programs focusing on returning function; education on correct body mechanics during functional; application of thermal agents such as ice or heat.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Chiropractic healthcare is a branch of the healing arts based on the scientific fact that our nervous system controls or influences the entire body. When the nervous system is not working properly, due to nerve impingement, this will result in a loss of function. Specific chiropractic adjustments and therapies release the pressure on the nerve, allowing the body to heal itself with no interference. Our Chiropractic physicians treat the structural and functional relationship between a patient’s muscles, nerves, and joints. This could include conditions of the neck, back, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, or any joint of the body. Functional problems that most of our patients suffer from are due to injury, as well as repetitive stress from work, play, and daily life. These problems can present themselves with symptoms such as pain, stiffness, limited movement, weakness, numbness, tingling, and even headaches. Chiropractic care has also been proven to be a safe and effective course of treatment while pregnant and during postpartum recovery. Our chiropractors safely assist expectant mothers with common complaints such as low back pain or shoulder and upper back pain in new moms.

MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage is often used in the coordination with physical therapy and chiropractic care to help the muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the body heal quickly and effectively. Thrive Physical Medicine employs Massage Therapists on staff to help assist you in reaching your health goals. Physical Benefits of Massage Therapy include: Relaxes the body; Calms the nervous system; Reduces heart rate; Loosens tight muscles; Stretches connective tissues; Reduces chronic pain; Increases blood and lymph circulation; Relieves tired and aching muscles; and Stimulates the release of endorphins.
